Engineered wood, also called mass timber, composite wood, man-made wood, or manufactured board, is a derived wood product that is bonded or fixed by wood wool, particles, etc., with adhesives or other fixing methods. A composite material. For example, Medium-density Fibreboard (MDF), Oriented Strand Board (OSB), Plywood, etc.
Furniture made from engineered wood is often inexpensive, stylish, easy to manufacture, and durable. Furniture that often uses engineered wood has tables, shelves, stools, cabinets, etc. engineered wood can withstand changes in humidity and heat better than solid wood, which tends to expand and contract when humidity and temperature rise and fall. At the same time, high-quality engineered wood has good properties such as fire resistance, scratch resistance, moisture resistance, and pollution resistance, so it is more popular in ordinary home decoration.
To judge the quality of engineered wood, check the thickness of the "wear layer," or skin of the wood; the amount of veneer in the core; and the amount of veneer—all of which affect price and warranty. Generally speaking, the more layers the better.
When using Engineered Wood Furniture, pay attention to:
- No Humid environment. Water and humidity can cause warping and permanent damage to floors. While many engineered wood furniture is waterproof, usually only the top layer is waterproof. Since the core material of solid wood composite panels is not waterproof, allowing water to seep into the planks can cause damage. Solid wood furniture also needs to pay attention to moisture-proof during use.
- No intense sunlight. Exposure to strong sunlight can cause discoloration of solid wood furniture. When picking, it is recommended to choose light-colored engineered hardwoods.
- Wear and tear. While engineered wood is more durable than solid wood furniture, it's still not as good as metal furniture. Use a mat or blanket for protection to reduce injury and wear.
In the process of use, also pay attention to the daily cleaning of furniture. The best way to clean wood furniture is to add white vinegar to warm water (1 cup per 2 gallons of water). The natural acidity of vinegar helps remove dirt and contaminants while being safe for your engineered wood furniture and the environment.
